Why strangulation has become normalised

ABC Radio National

Australia’s ABC Radio National hosted a candid, extended conversation about sexual strangulation – or what is often referred to as sexual ‘choking.’ Breathless campaign co-founder Maree Crabbe featured alongside three young people – Laura Crozier, Elaquare Spencer and Talon – who shared their thoughts and experiences.

Themes discussed included the normalisation of sexual strangulation, the gendered nature of the act, risks to safety and questions about consent.

Here are some of the key quotes from the conversation. You can listen to the full segment on the ABC website.
