Lately there has been a lot of conversation about sexual strangulation. With a surge of content both online and offline, it can be difficult to know what information is accurate and what may be misinformation.
The Breathless campaign team has developed a series of information sheets to support young people to get reliable information about sexual strangulation and what it means for them.
The first sheet focuses on the facts about sexual strangulation, including the risks, who is doing it, and the connections with relationship violence.
You can view all our information sheets here.
Some of the information in this post may be new to you or raise concerns. Support is available.
If you have experienced strangulation, we encourage you to seek support – for example, from a medical professional, counsellor, family violence or sexual assault service, helpline, friend or family member. In Australia, options for helplines include 1800 RESPECT, Full Stop Australia, QLife and 13Yarn. If you are in danger, call emergency services.
